Collection: Back Roads Granola
Peter and Virginia first started making granola as a homemade breakfast item for guests at their B&B, located on their farm on a back road in Vermont. Their guests started asking if they could buy some and the rest is history.
In 2011, they began renovating an existing building on their farm so it could become their first kitchen dedicated to baking granola. They purchased a used, 1983 double oven and an electric mixer (no more hand mixing!). Production bumped up to 1,000 lb. per week.
After the devastation of Hurricane Irene, Peter and Virginia closed the B&B and began selling granola, to their local Brattleboro Food Co-Op. They became their top selling granola in the first five weeks and remain so today. They hired their first employee and took the plunge into the business of granola baking full-time!
In addition to selling their granolas in bulk, they had a growing number of customers asking for retail-size packages. They began hand filling and labeling 12 oz. bags of granola and added them to their product line.
In 2018, with demand from local customers as well as large distributors such as Whole Foods — they doubled their square footage to make room for state-of-the-art production equipment with double warehouse and production capacity.
